Abstract

Various existing formulations for the design sensitivity analysis (DSA) of linear structural dynamic systems are reviewed. An alternative formulation is developed where it can be shown that the DSA can be approximately obtained from the reduced system of the dynamical equations without the need for eigenvector derivative information. Furthermore, it can be shown analytically that the proposed formulation and the classical formulation (where eigenvector derivatives are required) are equivalent when a complete transformation is used.
