Abstract

This paper proposed the methodology and characteristics of the independent speed and position control of two permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) fed by the five-leg inverter (5LI) with space vector modulation (SVM). The 5LI is a single inverter that can drive two motors independently. The 5LI has been studied for aiming saving space and reduction of inverter losses. We can select freely the switching pattern by using SVM. It can also reduce the switching counts. The experimental results are proved that 5LI with SVM can drive two PMSMs by independently vector control. In addition, Drives by SVM are close to the same as the case of conventional modulation. But the gate signals of 5LI with SVM are reduced relative to conventional modulation.
