Abstract

The amplification of neutral acoustic waves is investigated in gaseous plasmas consisting of three species of particles (neutral, ion, electron). The calculatoins are done on the basis of the two kinds of assumptions: (1) The ion+neutral system is regarded as a continuous medium and is approximated by an elastic wave equation, (2) each of systems (electron, ion, neutral) is treated hydrodynamically using Euler's equations. The two amplification constants obtained from the assumptions (1) and (2) are both the linear function of the electron drift velocity. The case (2) gives more strict informations than the case (1). The former is in more qualitative agreement with the experimental findings of Yatsui et al.,2) provided that an injection of ultrasonic waves increases the collision frequency of the systems.
