Abstract

In this article, we shall point out that in a great variety of amorphous solids (a-Si, amorphous transition metal compounds) the fundamental defect is a two-center singlet spin-paired state (called hereby C 2 0) and that it governs a variety of physical phenomena of importance to the amorphous state. We shall discuss amorphous silicon in slight detail and briefly amorphous WO 3 and MoS 3.
