Abstract
The rate of premature births increases by 2.3 times in women with cervical weakness [1]. Prolonging gestational age can significantly improve the live birth rate of premature infants. Emergency cervical cerclage is a procedure which involves placing a cerclage in the setting of significant cervical dilatation and/or effacement prior to 28 weeks of gestation. This is performed to block the progression of labor; however, it is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes as compared with elective cervical cerclage.
