Abstract

Amiodarone is a potent antiarrhythmic drug effective in the treatment of ventricular and supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation.1 Although amiodarone lacks significant proarrhythmic effects it’s use has been associated with a wide range of side effects from different organ systems.1 Only a handful of cases of hair loss associated with amiodarone intake have been reported in the literature. A 85-year-old man with a history of dilated cardiomyopathy with a left ventricular ejection fraction of 35% and permanent atrial fibrillation suffered episodes of sustained ventricular tachycardia with hemadynamic collapse and underwent implantation of a single chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) since no reversible cause was evident.
