Abstract
1. 1. Larvae of the pecan weevil, Curculio caryae (Horn) and the southwestern corn borer, Diatraea grandiosella (Dyar), and nymphs of the tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot deBeauvois), were analyzed for essential and total amino acids. 2. 2. Kernels of pecan, Carya illinoensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch, inner whorl of corn, Zea mays L., and pods of green bean, Phaseolus vulgaris L., the feeding sites of these insects, were also analyzed for essential and total amino acids. 3. 3. Essential amino acids (tryptophan not measured) comprised 30–46% of the total amino acids. 4. 4. The relative abundance of each individual essential amino acid (percentage of total essential amino acids) in each insect was comparable to that in each host.
