Abstract

1. Benzylamine oxidizes through a radical-chain mechanism with second-power chain rupture. Rate constants have been determined for chain rupture and propagation, and for initiation by azodiisobutylronitrile. 2. Oxidation of benzylamine involves repeated rupture of the oxidation chains on each antioxidant molecule. Inhibition coefficients and rate constants have been determined for various aromatic amines, phenols, stable radicals, and transition-metal salts.
