Abstract

Introducing the technical program for the present meetings, during which the reports of the various subcommittees will be presented, it is fitting to review briefly the activities of the technical committee during the past two years. When I took over the chairmanship of the technical committee at the Cincinnati meeting in May 1942, we were in the midst of a great war. It was to be expected that our activities would have to be curtailed. As a matter of fact, in order to cooperate fully with the war effort and following the example of other scientific societies, we decided not to hold our regular annual meetings in 1943 and in 1944 and instead to have only short annual business meetings and technical sessions.
