Abstract
This article has an accompanying continuing medical education activity on page e16. Learning Objective: Upon completing this exam, successful learners will be able to :(1) determine whether biopsies are indicated during a normal endoscopic exam of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum in an adult patient with dyspepsia; (2) assess the need for special stains if biopsies are taken; (3) decide if treatment of H pylori infection in the adult patient with dyspepsia is effective in reducing symptoms; and (4) decide if biopsies for celiac sprue are warranted in an adult with dyspepsia and a normal endoscopy.
