Abstract

Evidence suggests that age-related reductions in slow wave sleep (SWS) are associated with increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), making it important to understand how SWS is regulated. Evidence also indicates a strong interdependence between SWS onset and a decline in core body temperature (CBT), but causal mechanisms are not understood. We aimed to determine the temporal relationship between CBT and slow-wave activity (SWA) in the normal elderly.
