Abstract

Composites behave in a complex manner and prediction of its properties are difficult, different mechanisms come in to act with different processing techniques so that huge research work should be needed to find out conditional behaviour of composites. Present work is focused on the fabrication of the AA7075/B4C Nano composite; fabrication techniques involves ball milling of boron carbide powder of initial size nearly 50 microns to a particle size in Nano range(400-500nm) by selecting the optimized parameters. Mixing of B4C Nano powder with AA7075 alloy powder and at the same time with Al along with alloying elements as per AA7075 composition was done in ball milling machine with 6% composition followed by cold compaction and then spark plasma sintering.Mechanical properties (Tensile, Compression, Hardness) were tested to find the effect of reinforcements and individual alloying elements, SEM & EDS analysis was done to find out microstructure and elemental mapping, results show superior enhancement in the mechanical properties in case of Al along with alloying elements (composite-1) rather than direct AA7075 powder(composite-2).
