Abstract

ABSTRACT The growing interest for alternative materials (wastes, by-products) in road construction in France makes knowledge and experience sharing a general need at national scale today. To answer to this need, the OFRIR database shared between the actors of the field was implemented in 2003 (website http://ofrir.lcpc.fr), providing information about 16 products (alternative materials elaborated for road construction). The objectives of the project and the structure of the database are presented. The main results related to the collection of information show that the knowledge about physicochemical, engineering and environmental characteristics of products is good, whereas health and safety aspects are poorly addressed, as well as the feedback from experiences.
