27 - Technical note. Alternative materials in road construction - an approach for research implementation

Abstract

The increasing need for materials, the increasing quantity of waste and the care for the environment shaped chances for alternative materials in road construction. Fundamental questions had to be solved about materials and construction performance. A research program in which all parties were involved made it possible to achieve in a relatively short time not only technical results for the use of alternatives but also a better understanding of the behaviour of traditional constructions. The joint approach made a quick acceptance of the scientific and practical results possible.
