Abstract
In this paper, a method is proposed to improve bus fault-tolerance by the ADR (Alternate Data Retry) approach. ADR is a fault-tolerance technique that corrects t-fold faults by means of error-detecting code and retry. Two linear codes are employed herein to correct t-fold errors caused by t-fold stuck-at bus faults. The first code is a t-fold error-detecting code. Another linear code is generated from a matrix with t columns that are linearly independent. This code provides the set of vectors for retry, here referred to as t-mask code. In this paper, double stuck-at bus faults are masked using Hamming code (double error-detecting code) and 2-mask code. It is also shown that using 2-mask code results in a smaller maximum number of retries than conventional methods.
