Abstract

Relapse in alcohol use disorder (AUD) is often triggered by negative affect, including anxiety, which is elevated in early abstinence. Animal models suggest a critical role for the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) and BNST network in negative affect and relapse, yet little is known in humans.
