Abstract

A general class of allocation problems is defined using terms as acceptor, functional element, and attribute. A given problem of that class can be formulated in the input language of ALPIN - a program system for investigating allocation problems. The technique used in the optimization part of the system is based on the optimization of a sequence of imbedded sub-problems by partial enumeration. The acceptors and functional elements in a subproblem are selected by a fuzzy algorithm. The application of ALPIN to several areas is straight forward e.g. optimal room allocation in buildings, macro position planning of an industrial area. As an example the capacity and routing optimization of a delivery service is given.
