Abstract

Well - tell me about your geology excursion ! The writer describes an innovation in one of his classes, with 13-14-years olds : during the whole year, his pupils were acquiring the necessary skills for producing reports on geological excursions. Various tools are presented, which aim at helping the pupils to write and to draw, at first with much guidance from the teacher, but progressively less and less. Students are often strongly motivated for this type of work, and are aware of its potential use in other disciplines. In Natural Science, writing takes up time : the present syllabus is so heavy, that detailed, individual scientific texts produced in class will long remain exceptional in our secondary education.
