Abstract
A consistent calculation of the effect of the anisotropy of the internal field in the Lorentz-Lorenz expressions and in the expressions relating to dynamic birefringence of liquids or polymer solutions to the optical anisotropy of the components of their molecules or the statistical segments of the macromolecules has been made. As distinct from the approaches used previously, it is assumed, in calculating the internal field in the anisotropic medium, that the void has an ellipsoidal shape. The absolute value of the anisotropy is greater by a factor of 1.3–1.8 than the values adopted in the literature.
