Abstract
airborne;contactdermatitis;occupational;rubber;thiuram.Healthcareprofessionalsareat riskofdeveloping allergichand dermatitis caused by exposure to accelerators inrubber gloves(1). The prevalence of contact allergyto thiurams peaked during the late 1980s and early1990s, when as many as 18% of healthcare workershad positive patch test reactions to these chemicals, nearly always in relation to dermatitis on the handsor forearms(1). Monitoring during 1994–1998 showedthat thiuram sensitivity had decreased to 12.2% amonghealthcare personnel, mainly because of a change inrubber glove manufacturing(1). Other investigationshave since confirmed this decline(2, 3, 4). We present aunique case suggesting facial allergic rubber dermatitiscausedbyairbornespreadofrubberaccelerators.
