Abstract

A tunable all-optical decision scheme using a semiconductor optical amplifier integrated with a distributed Bragg reflector laser is proposed and simulated. Simulations show that the dynamic optical decisions with extinction ratio (ER) improvement from 28 to 6 dB can be obtained for signal rates between 1.25 and 10 Gb/s, respectively. In addition, with two input signals, logic NAND and NOR gates are realized with ER improvements of 24 and 20 dB, respectively.
