Abstract
The authors have developed an S-VHS format signal-processing system that can be used for the NTSC, PAL, and pseudo-SECAM television formats to achieve VCR design rationalization and performance improvement through the use of digital technology. In conjunction with this development, the authors have developed three LSIs that enable functional performance and picture quality evaluations of the new signal-processing system. Optimization of bit counts in each section of this system and use of a linear phase filter have been verified to produce signal-to-noise ratio and waveform reproducibility improvements relative to an analog system. Efficient use of line memory enables implementation of signal processing that includes Y/C separation with only three chips. >
