Abstract

Small masses of alkaline rocks were found in the Late Cretaceous to Paleogene granites at the northeast of Mt. Jonen-dake in Japan Alps. The alkaline rocks are divided into three rock-types; Type I: Syenite to quartz-syenite (microcline-albite-aegirineaugite) Type II: Quartz-syenite to alkali granite (albite-quartz-microcline-aegirineaugite) Type III: Alkali granite (quartz-microcline-albite-hedenbergite). Mode of occurrence, petrography, and chemistry of the alkaline rocks are briefly described, and the metasomatic origin of the rocks is discussed. These alkaline rocks are different from the Nishina alkaline rocks but similar to the syenitic rocks associated with the granites of the Setouchi Province of West Japan.
