Abstract

Our previous investigations of radiation-induced structural changes in borosilicate glasses have been extended to include the role of alkali ions. Using high-voltage electron microscopy associated with X-ray dispersion spectroscopy, it has been found that sodium strongly influences all stages of the damage process. A simple model is suggested to account for the observed effects.
