Abstract
This article discusses about the beef consumption in the urban area of the city of Parintins in light of its ecological and cultural impacts. With the assistance of the ecological footprint it is estimated (calculated) the consumption pressure of this feed on the environment. The data were collected through a survey and in the Refueling Municipal Secretary (SEMPA), which allowed to estimate the ecological pressure of beef consumption, as well as appraising the perception of cultural losses in the change of the protein absorption in the region, replacing to traditional food, particularly fish, for processed foods. Based, also, on the IBGE’s digital bank it was possible to draw a new configuration for the protein consumption in Parintins. The results show that, for the calculation of the ecological footprint, it is necessary to include not only the numbers, impacts distant from the site of consumption, but the environmental impact provided by the loss of food safety and nutritional link with the territory, by the increase of the consumption of imported frozen proteins.
