Abstract

The aim of this paper is to suggest a few notes on Romance Intercomprehension (IC) and its possible use in teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language. In the first part of this paper, we present IC, the most relevant and teaching materials in the field, as well as a few “myths” that make its curricular integration more difficult. Further on, we suggest practical tips on the use of IC in teaching Portuguese: using well known literary texts, textual genres with a known structure, subtitled or dubbed movies or series, the use of English as a bridge between Portuguese and languages belonging to different families.
