Abstract

This article proposes some thoughts on the proposal of bilingual education for deaf in the inclusive school , looking for understanding the interface , in the educational process of the Sign language - LIBRAS - and Portuguese. It is a brief overview on the history of deaf education, in Brazil, and methodological trends that guided the pedagogical practices aimed at teaching Portuguese to deaf students in special education classes are delineated . Then, it discusses bilingualism as a new perspective to the teaching of the Portuguese language to the deaf in inclusive schools . Also , it points up the need for redefining the teaching practice to look on the bilingual proposal and meet the education needs of the deaf
