Abstract

Live cells of two probiotic strains were obtained, microencapsulated in alginate having an average particle size within the range of 160 to 850 microns. At least 98% of living cells were shown to be included in the capsules. The bacteria remained viable for up to 3 months when stored within the microcapsules in a liquid suspension.
