Abstract

Once the French Government offered de jure recognition to Mexican President Alvaro Obregon in September 1923, Mexican-French relations stabilised, and a cultural rapprochement was achieved thanks to the work of Alfonso Reyes in Paris and Genaro Estrada and Jean Perier in Mexico City. From 1924 to 1928, these figures promoted a rapprochement between artists, writers and academics, achieving the visit of French intellectuals to Mexico City and Mexicans to Paris, which means there was an active exchange of ideas and knowledge between countries. By exploring diplomatic correspondence between these actors, we shall explore the application of cultural diplomacy by Mexico and France.
