Abstract
Introduction: The Alexis retractor/protector is a self-retaining retractor which has been used in colorectal, breast, gastrointestinal, general surgery and obstetrics. It has been shown to have multiple benefits when compared with conventional wound retractors. Our aim is to review current literature of the benefits offered by Alexis retractor in multiple surgical specialities and to compare the literature findings to our own observations.
