Abstract
Major depression and alcohol addiction are characterized by high comorbidity (Lalanne et al., 2015). Ceramide/acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) system is proposed as a mechanism for depression-induced alcoholism. Clinical and preclinical studies showed the association between increased ASM activity in tissues and depression as well as alcohol addiction (Kornhuber et al., 2005; Gulbins et al., 2013; Müller et al., 2017). We investigated interactions between depression and alcohol dependence in animals overexpressing ASM (ASMtg).
