Abstract

This paper discusses the Alberta's experience of coordinating High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) line operation with under-voltage Remedial Action Scheme (RAS). The integration of two 500 kV HVDC transmission projects in the Alberta Interconnected Electric System (AIES) has some impacts on AC system voltage recovery after clearing three phase faults. The resuming of power transfer on HVDC inverters post AC system fault extends the time needed for AC system bus voltage recovery. The extended voltage recovery time could cause under-voltage RAS mis-operation. The analyzation and solution are presented in this paper.
