Abstract

This study addresses the importance of the activities carried out by the Alanya Community Centre Halkevi founded in 1933, and which carried out im­portant duties. The Community centers, which were founded as a result of a historical development and for­mation process, emerged as a result of the social needs of the Turkish revolution. The 1930’s political, eco­nomic, cultural and social development was effective in the opening of the centers. Europe and the impact of the practice on public education in some European countries resulted in the Community Center being opened in 14 cities on the 19th of February 1932. The number of Community Centers quickly and continu­ously increased as an organization from its opening. The Community Center was opened in Alanya on 03/25/1933. Alanya Community Centre, tried to spread­ing innovations tf the public,made efforts to adopt them in the period from the opening to its clos­ing. Alanya Community Centre’s activities faced prob­lems, its role in cultural development and public educa­tion have tried to put forward in this study. At the end of this work, it was determined that Centre had worked in many areas, such as culture, daily life, reading, writing, theater, cinema and music. Alanya Commu­nity Center had also a role in the protection of historical and cultural heritage. However, the Community Center was the target of the criticism by the opposition party because of working closely with the CHP. It was closed soon after the opposition party came to power.
