AJPE Welcomes Fjortoft and Schlesselman as Associate Editors

Abstract

The AJPE editorial team is pleased to welcome two new associate editors, Dr. Nancy Fjortoft from the Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy and Dr. Lauren S. Schlesselman from University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. The educational and scholarly knowledge of Drs. Fjortoft and Schlesselman complement the strengths of the other three associate editors, Drs. Claire Anderson (University of Nottingham School of Pharmacy), Frank Romanelli (University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy) and Adam Persky (University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy). They will work closely with the AJPE Editorial Manager Amanda Thomason and Editorial Assistant James Peak. The new associate editors bring expertise in the areas of social and administrative sciences, qualitative and quantitative research, leadership and administration, and assessment and evaluation. Dr. Fjortoft received a BA in sociology from Blackburn College and an MS in sociology from DePaul University. She continued on to receive a PhD in public policy analysis higher education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She brings a wide variety of knowledge to AJPE given her experiences in student affairs, continuing education, and academic affairs through numerous administrative roles at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy. She now serves as dean and is a professor at the Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy. Dr. Fjortoft has served on the editorial boards of for AJPE and Annals of Pharmacotherapy:Pharmaceutical Education Panel. She has published more than 20 papers in AJPE, one of which received the Rufus A. Lyman Award in 1994. She is also a long-time dedicated reviewer for AJPE. An active member of AACP, Fjortoft served as chair of the Continuing Professional Education Section and of the Women’s Special Interest Group Resource Clearing House Committee, and on various other committees. Dr. Schlesselman received her BS in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and her PharmD from the University of Georgia. She completed an adult internal medicine residency from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Schlesselman recently completed a MA in educational psychology with focus on cognition and instruction from the University of Connecticut. She has worked in numerous hospital and community pharmacy settings and served as a freelance medical writer before joining the University of Connecticut. She continues as an associate clinical professor at the University of Connecticut and is currently the assistant dean for academic and strategic initiatives. She has served as a member of the AJPE Editorial Board and has been a committed reviewer for the journal. She is also a member of the editorial board for the Center for the Advancement of Pharmacy Education. She has published papers in AJPE as well as Pharmacy Practice, Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, American Journal of Hospital-System Pharmacy, and Formulary. Dr. Schlesselman was a recipient of the Rufus A. Lyman Award in 2008. She is chair of AACP’s Assessment Special Interest Group and has been involved with the Laboratory and Curriculum Special Interest Group. The AJPE editorial team is committed to working closely with authors, reviewers, and editorial board members in the effort to continue advancing the quality of AJPE.
