Abstract
ABSTRACT The grinding of iron with a rotating grinding wheel was studied. Measurements were performed to determine air movements and the transport of grinding particles. Particles are spread around a rotating grinding wheel. Visualizations of airflow show that radial air transport off the surface of a grinding wheel circumference is not negligible and therefore affects the transport of particles. This was supported by the results of particle concentration measurements. Concentration measurements showed that very small particles were spread more rapidly than in a computer simulation of particle transport.
