Abstract

Abstract
This contribution provides a current and comprehensive summary regarding AIDS-related malignancies and their management. Management of AIDS-related malignancies remains complex. Cancers are more aggressive, presenting at a later stage and at unusual sites. Opportunistic infection and concurrent immunosuppression complicate management. In addition to prolonging survival through immune reconstitution in persons with HIV, highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has resulted in a reduction in incidence of Kaposi's sarcoma and certain types of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Furthermore, HAART is of therapeutic value in Kaposi's sarcoma.
