Abstract

This study focuses on Ahmad bin Ya’qub Al-Johori’s educational ideas for female students, which is accepted in the curriculum of Johor government religious schools. The primary goal of this research is to highlight the idea of Al-Johori education as found in two of his works, Kitab Adab Perempuan Juzuk Yang Pertama and Kitab Adab Perempuan Juzuk Yang Kedua. This study also aims to demonstrate the importance of Al-Johori’s ideas on women’s education when the issue has been accepted by the community through teaching for female students in Johor religious schools from the 1920s to the 1930s. In this study, archival research methods were used to analyse each discussion, as well as Al-Johori’s work as the primary reference. The Johor Branch of the National Archives of Malaysia houses files from the Islamic Religious Department, the Johor State Secretary’s Office, and selected Kadi’s Offices. In each issue discussed, the primary documents were compiled, processed, analysed, and presented as evidence of argument. Simultaneously, this study considers the use of secondary sources such as theses, books, and journals for the chronological arrangement of discussions. Finally, this study concluded that Al-Johori’s work is significant when used as an educational idea for women in order to produce a society that is strengthened with knowledge.
