Abstract

This article discusses import tariffs and export restrictions, especially export taxes. Trade barriers that cause agricultural trade distortions include both import tariffs and export taxes. Import tariffs can raise the price and protect domestic producers, while export restrictions can hurt domestic producers in order to ensure domestic supply. This article first presents the theory and then investigates the empirical evidence of these barriers in agricultural trade.
