Abstract
Nowadays, reading ability is one of the basic competences that enable an individual to function in the world. Agnieszka Duewska's publication, Understanding literary texts by students with hearing impairment presents, in a multi-faceted way, issues related to language and its role in cognition, as well as shows the difficulties faced by students with profound and severe hearing impairment during the process of understanding the read text. Often, a low level of language competences contributes to many negative consequences, which include not only marginalization, but also less opportunities for development and life satisfaction. This book, in the light of the research conducted so far, presents a new perspective, therefore it is worth getting acquainted with it more closely.
