Abstract
Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is an extremely rare, locally invasive, mesenchymal tumor. It has a high propensity of recurrence and rapid growth, especially if complete excision of the lesion is not achieved at the primary surgery. Surgery with appropriate plastic reconstruction is the mainstay of treatment. We highlight two cases of AA of the temporal region, both in extremes of age group and displaying both characteristic features of this tumor recurrence and aggressive growth. Special care was taken to achieve complete excision of the tumor in the auricular–preauricular region with parotidectomy and preservation of facial nerve function. This case report highlights the aggressive pathophysiology of the tumor, with special emphasis on complete tumor removal, necessary to prevent recurrence.
