Abstract
Fatigue Testing with Few Engine Components under Overloading. This article deals with a statistical method to evaluate the probability of survival for a special method of fatigue testing. A number of components is tested under a higher loading than in service. If the components are tested without failure, then they are considered as safe in the service. With the developed method the practical experience is very good. The overloading can be realized by higher forcing in the simulation, by increasing of the vibrating mass or by stronger motor load spectra. The limits and boundary conditions of the different possibilities are discussed. It is also feasible to do the fatigue tests directly on the combustion engine to reduce the development time and to test strength properties in the range of high cycle fatigue.
