Abstract

Fission track dating of Layer 4 of Peking Man Site has been carried out with ancient ashes left behind by Peking Man in Layer 4 of the Site. A mineral (sphene) has been separated from the ashes and well annealed sphene grains have been used to date Layer 4. The result is (0.306 Ā± 0.056) Myr, which is in agreement with the results of thermoluminescence and U-series dating. From a comparison between the age of Layer 10 [(0.462 Ā± 0.045) Myr] dated by fission track method and the age of Layer 4 obtained in this work, an inference that the dration from Layer 10 to Layer 4 is about (0.156 Ā± 0.072) Myr has been drawn.
