Abstract
The topics of death and afterlife have long held a central place in modern reconstructions of the religious traditions of ancient Mediterranean West Asia or the Levant. Those of the Late Bronze Age city of Ugarit are no exception. Several factors have undoubtedly influenced this state of affairs, but one that clearly stands out above the others is the western or, more specifically Judeo-Christian preoccupation with humanity's physical fate beyond death.
