Abstract

Certain systemic diseases such as connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, infiltrative diseases, and metabolic (mainly diabetes mellitus) or infectious diseases can affect the gastrointestinal system in general and the stomach in particular. Both the clinical and endoscopic manifestations as well as the treatment may vary among them, although in general, they all require an endoscopic biopsy for a diagnostic approach. Treatment is usually for the underlying disease in most cases and often includes the use of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants.
