Abstract

This paper examines the aesthetics of Ewe music and dance from a multidisciplinary perspective, and the biological, socioeconomic, religious, andpolitical factors that shape Ewe music and dance and form the basis of their evaluation. It focuses on the Ewe music and dance and culture but drawsfrom other African cultures. The introduction reviews some of the previous aesthetic theories that were applied to African performing Arts and cultures. The paper finally addresses intercultural influences on African aesthetics and suggests ways of sustaining the essential African aesthetic values in this contemporary era.
