Abstract

AbstractAesthetics plays an important role in many professions, now more than ever. The development of many products, for example, requires in-depth knowledge of aesthetics, that is, how we present information, objects, and concepts. Without the knowledge of effective design, businesses may be at risk of losing millions of dollars as people will not purchase items they are not attracted to or have specific functionality. Topics such as design principles, 21st-century skills, aesthetic usability, and space are shared. Further, aesthetics can play an important role in workplace environments, enabling employees to be more productive and have heightened wellbeing. This chapter, therefore, explores the importance of aesthetics in the workplace as well as what impact knowledge of aesthetics might have on employee satisfaction and their mental health. Finally, it discusses the importance of teaching aesthetics to be job-ready and cultural contributors to society.KeywordsProfessionWorkplaceDesign principlesAesthetic usabilityWellbeingJob-ready
