Abstract

Objective To explore the efficacy of the aerosol inhalation of a high dose of budesonide for children with severe asthma and its effect on serum cytokine levels. Methods 87 children with severe asthma were randomly divided into a control group (n=43) and an observation group (n=44) using random number table method. The control group aerosolly inhaled budesonide 100 μg/d and the observation group 800 μg/d. The levels of Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the two groups were observed and compared. Results The total efficacy was 86.36% (38/44) in the observation group and was 67.44% (29/43) in the control group, with a statistical difference (P 0.05). Conclusions The aerosol inhalation of a high dose of budesonide for children with severe asthma is quite effective and safe and can the children’s serum cytokine levels.
