Abstract
The purpose of the present paper is to conduct a process of optimization, design and 3D simulation of a small-scale Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) suitable for local wind conditions of Morocco. The turbine rotor, with tapered and twisted blades, is designed to operate at a rated wind speed of 7 m/s which is the most prominent wind speed prevailing in Morocco. Multiple airfoils are used in this HAWT to achieve high efficiency. Chord and twist angle distributions and other geometrical parameters for different sections along the blade are determined and exploited to carry a 3D design. Finally, a 3D simulation based on Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) with Large Eddy turbulence model is carried out using ANSYS Fluent software.
