Abstract

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) has high infection rate in the population, especially in congenital infection and the immunity deficiency patients. HCMV has diverse pathogenicity and can cause different clinical manifestations. The mechanism may be related to the different human immune status and viral genotypes. The UL/b' gene of HCMV is considered to play an important role in pathogenic process, such as congenital HCMV infection, virus invasion, latent activation, immune escape, teratogenicity and carcinogenesis. This review gives a brief overview of the research progress in this field. Key words: Cytomegalovirus; Gene polymorphism; UL/b' gene
