Abstract

Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) have emerged as a potentially effective drug delivery system belonging to the class of colloidal drug carriers. The SLNs possess certain unique properties which makes their utility in various drug delivery fields. The drug loading in SLNs possesses many advantages in comparison to free drug and can easily conquer the limitations of conventional drug delivery systems. This review is based on recent studies and advancements in the field of SLNs. The review highlights the use of SLNs in delivery of drugs, in messenger Ribonucleic Acid (m-RNA) vaccines, in monoclonal antibodies (mAb) against the management of various diseases. A brief glimpse of effect of various components and the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on SLNs formulation has been also discussed. SLNs have immense applications in the management of several kinds of ailments, so this review also takes into account the role of SLNs in limiting the progression of diseases, the novel modification strategy of SLNs, and the incorporation of SLNs into different matrix which further enhances their applicability.
